Ogres Valsts Gimnazija

The mission of our school is to form European citizens respectful of other cultures, to provide them with 21st century skills and an attitude to lifelong learning and continuous innovation. To reach this ambitious goal we benefit from the experiences shared with other European schools, therefore internationalization is a key element of our development plan. Ogre State Gymnasium provides four educational programmes: Musical, Humanities, Maths and Technology and General Secondary. There are more than 490 students and 65 teachers in the school. Ogre State Gymnasium has accumulated project experience in Comenius, eTwinning and Erasmus+ projects. Teachers are educated in International project management, coordination and planning. Students are prepared for cooperation with European schools. They are creative, able to work in team and show initiative, they know how to handle non-standard situations; they have good command of English which always should be improved. The school is a Public Gymnasium, a methodological centre for the region; teachers’ lead methodical associations, organize seminars, different competitions, Olympiads, share their experience with their region schools and also with remote neighbour schools. Teachers prepare teaching/learning materials; teachers participate in the project “School- 2030”- they are members of expert commissions of new Curriculum development and implication. Our school organizes different contests, Olympiads, courses, seminars and workshops both for teachers and for students and also participates in multiple activities organized by other State Gymnasiums. In recent years, the European schools are experiencing various challenges - both the migrant inflow and the reform of national education systems. Also our school is preparing for transition to competence approach in learning content – “School 2030". Erasmus+ strategic partnership projects and the experience of other states can help to clarify topical issues, how to make the learning process of young people closer, more understandable and meaningful, to modernise the learning process using IT opportunities, point out ways to reduce barriers between the school and the local community.
